J.B.Law College (JBCL) is actually called Jnanadabhiram Barooah Law College which was begun in the year 1969. Jnanadabhiram Barooah is one of the renowned identity in the legal field in Assam and this school is named after him as J B Law College. This school has been considered as one of the main Law Schools of North East India which is conferring lawful training following 1969 in the said spot.
This school is permanently affiliated to Gauhati University and it is additionally recognised by Bar Council of India and has enlisted with University Grants Commission. Justice T. N. Singh, previous Judge of Madhya Pradesh High Court, Justice K. M. Lahiri, previous Chief Justice of Gauhati High Court, Justice T. C. Das, previous Judge of Gauhati High Court Justice B.L. Hansaria, previous Chief Justice of Odissa High Court and previous Judge of Supreme Court of India were all part of this school who served as instructors here.
Justice A. H. Saikia, previous Judge, Gauhati High Court and in the blink of an eye Chief Justice of J & K High Court has served as educator furthermore the Principal of this College. Late Golap Chandra Choudhury was the first Principal of the College who was a famous educationalist.
The school offers 3 years LLB and 5 years BA LLB (Hons) and LLM Courses as well.
