Captain Saurabh Kalia Case: Union Govt decided to change Affidavit before the Supreme Court in relation to taking the case before International Court of Justice

New Delhi: Government on its earlier stand has reversed on this Monday in relation to the taking of the case of Kargil Martyr Captain, Saurabh Kalia to the International Court of Justice- ICJ. The affidavit filed by the Government in the honourable Apex Court of India in relation to the concerned case will be changed by it, as said by Sushma Swaraj, the Foreign Minister.

In the earlier stand, the Government in its response in the concerned case has shown its unwilling to taking of the issue in the case before the International Court of Justice- ICJ under the ‘Geneva Convention’. However, the Top Court of the Country had directed to the Union Government to pursue the matter of Martyr, Saurabh Kalia in that International Court.

During the period of the earlier Government of Manmohan Singh, i.e. in the year 2013, the Government of India had decided and stated before the nation’s Top Court that, the case of martyr, Saurabh Kalia will not be treated as torture by Pakistan based- troops as a ‘War Crime’.

However, the present Govt of Bhartia Janata Party- BJP headed by the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi has sought to support the martyr Kalia’s Family and prompted their strong reaction and also the opposition Congress party.

The father of martyr, Saurabh Kalia, Mr. N. K. Kalia (a retired Senior Scientist from the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research- CSIR) told to IANA that the India was apparently confused in its policy on Pakistan.

Also on asking about the relationship between the two countries, India and Pakistan, ‘are they friends or enemies?’, Mr. N. K. Kalia said ‘India is totally confused’ as per his personal experience for the past sixteen years and also when he had lost his son for the sake of the Country.

In the case of Martyr, Saurabh Kalia, the matter of fact is that he was on 15th day of May, 1999 on a patrolling mission along with five other troops including Mr. Arjun Ram, Mr. Bhika Ram, Mr. B. L. Bagaria, Mr. Moola Ram and Mr. Naresh Singh in the Kargil heights and they were captured by Pakistani troops who had intruded into Indian territory. As per autopsy reports, the troops from Pak had brutally tortured them for 22 days by piercing their ears’ drums with the hot rods, by gouging out their eyes, by cutting their lips, by chopping off their limbs, by chipping their noses and by chopping out their private organs and also most of their teeth and bones were broken and lastly they were killed by shooting.
