The Damodaram Sanjivayya National Law University or DSNLU is placed at Visakhapatnam. It is a residential National Law University established according to the provisions of DSNLU Act, 2008. According to the Act, the main campus is permitted at Visakhapatnam and two sub centers are allotted in Kadapa as well as Nizamabad. The University offers law courses and other related subjects giving more importance on practical training. Participation and organization of moot court competitions, conducting seminars, preparation of project reports and the special lectures of experts are the other activities in the University in addition to law teaching. As part of curriculum, the University sent the students for Court visit, internships with lawyers and organize legal literacy and legal aid programmes with active partaking of the students.
The National Law Schools in India attained much significance with the growing necessity of legal education. For the purpose of enabling the students of Andhra Pradesh to get quality legal education, the Government made a decision to constitute a National Law University in the State. In accordance with the decision reached by the Council of Ministers, the Governor on July 8th, 2008 promulgated Andhra Pradesh University of Law Ordinance, 2008. Thereafter the cabinet granted approval to Andhra Pradesh University of Law Bill, 2008. When the Bill was passed, the ordinance was repealed and the University came into effect.
The college offers intergrated BA LLB (Hons) 5 year course for which the candidates are selected as per the result in the Commom Law Admission Test conducted at national level. Other courses conducted by the University include LLM and PhD and LLD where students can carry out research. In 2012, through an amendment, the name of the University was altered as Damodaram Sanjivayya National Law University. The University consists of excellent infrastructure including library and moot court halls. The online law journals subscribed by the University includes westlaw, manupatra, indlaw and taxmann. The library is added with latest national and international law journals that provides new developemnts in the legal field. The syllabus is suitable to the National Law University structure and is valuable learning. The teaching faculty is also good compared with other National Law Schools.
