Famous celebrities of Bollywood like Amitabh Bachan, Preity Zinta and Madhuri Dixit have landed in legal trouble because they have endorsed Maggi, the instant noodles. Along with these ambassadors of Maggi, two nestle officials who are Maggi manufacturer also have been sued and thus FIR has been registered against them in Muzaffarpur Bihar. Advocate Sudhir Kumar Ojha has filed a complaint and the Muzaffarpur court acted on it yesterday. Ramchandra Prasad, Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate had asked the Kazi Mohammadpur Police Station to file an FIR against these and start the investigation. The court has said that if needed the police can arrest the persons during the investigation.
The complaint was registered when the complainant had eaten the Maggi that he had purchased from Lenin Chowk of Muzaffarpur and had fallen ill on May 30 when he ate it. Thus he filed a complaint against Nestle who are the maker of the product and the celebrities endorse such products. Jurisdiction for Lenin Chowk fall under Kazi Mohammadpur police. This has been filed under Section 270 of IPC and 273, 276 and 420 and that these sections states that, malignant act which spread diseases that is dangerous to life, selling the noxious food, sale of drug as different drug and cheating. When Maggi was tested by Food regulator Food Safety and Drug Administration (FSDA) there was excess of monosodium glutamate and lead found in it and so a case was registered against Nestle India in Barabanki in Uttar Pradesh. On Monday the government told that the company and celebrities will have to face charges if the 2 minute add of Maggi was found to be wrong and misleading.
Amithab Bacchan who had endorsed the product before Madhuri told that he would be very cautious while doing ads hereafter. Mr Bacchan told that he had checked with Nestle about the product and in the contract that if anything happens they should defend him and he further said that he is not endorsing it as his contract is over. Madhuri had received the notice from Haridwar Food and Drug Administration regarding the claims about its nutritional value that was done while endorsing the Maggi.
