Gang Rape Of Elderly Nun: Another Shameful Incident To Be Known As An Indian

The CCTV footage became a crucial finding for the investigation officers of West Bengal in identifying the culprits in the gang rape of an elderly nun aged 71 years old in Nadia District in West Bengal. Speedy investigation is made on the alleged gang rape occurred in the early hours of last Saturday in the Jesus and Mary convent and so far ten persons were arrested.

District superintendent of Police, Mr Arnab Ghosh stated that four persons were identified from the CCTV visuals in the Convent and seven to eight persons were supposedly involved in the heinous crime. He also added that the identification of the detained persons needs to be clarified based on the visuals found in the CCTV.

 Reward of Rupees One lakhs is being announced by the SP for any informer who provides credible information about the culprits involved in the crime. He also informed the media that more information regarding the investigation cannot be revealed right now as it would affect the investigation process to find the real culprits.

Direct General of Police GMP Reddy also visited the Convent and stated that investigation is on in to the crime. District Magistrate Mr P.B Salim visited the nun who was brutalized beyond imagination at Ranaghat Hospital and he stated that her condition is stable now.

The Chief Minister Ms Mamta Banerjee strongly condemned the act of the dacoits who gang raped the elderly nun and looted the convent. Ms Banerjee assured that strong and swift action will be taken against the culprits irrespective of being who they are. She added that the nun is a motherly figure to all and any one wouldn’t be counted as human beings who committed such shameful act. She affirmed that high priority and attention is given to this sensitive issue to find and punish the real culprits. CID probe is ordered to the incident. ADG CID Rajeev Kumar is the investigation officer.

Mean while BJP demanded CBI probe to the incident. West Bengal BJP president Rahul Sinha alleged that this incident is the result of the provocative statement made by TMC MP Tapas Paul last year stating that “to kill CPI (M) workers and to rape their women”.  Mr Sinha added that the ruling party is trying to create communal tension.
