Gulberg Massacre Verdict: 11 convicts awarded with Life Imprisonment

Ahmadabad: Today, on Friday, 17th June, finally the Special SIT Court has pronounced its judgement on the sentencing of the twenty- four convicted persons in the Gulbarg Society Massacre case. Notably, the Court has sentenced eleven convicts with life imprisonment’s punishment and twelve convicts were sentenced to suffer 7 years imprisonment and remaining one convicted person was awarded with the 10 years jail.

The said sentencing judgement was came after the Special Court earlier on 2nd day of this June, had convicted, in all, twenty- four persons in the said Gulbarg Society massacre case, where about 69 people were killed. The verdict on quantum of punishment was kept reserved for coming days, by that court.  The Special Judge of the SIT Court, namely, P. B. Desai had pronounced his judgement, after hearing the learned counsels for the parties and after going through the circumstance of the case.

Earlier the prosecution was found, reportedly, demanding the exemplary punishment to the convicts, as in this case massive killing was effect and those killed 69 were belonging to the minority community, and also the then member of parliament- Ehsan Jafri. It is also notable that the incident was effect in the year 2002, and now this year, about 14 years after, the court had delivered its verdict holding 11 guilty of murder, 13 guilty of other charges like arson and rioting, etc. and acquitting above thirty accused.
