Nirma University National Colloquium on Agrarian Crisis with Special Reference to Farmer Suicide in India to be held on March 6, 2016

The Centre for the Study of Law and Governance Institute of Law Nirma University, Ahmedabad organizes National Colloquium on Agrarian Crisis with Special Reference to Farmer Suicide in India which will be held on March 6, 2016 from 9 am to 4 pm. This colloquium will be completely dedicated to the Agrarian crisis issues as well as the increasing suicides of farmers in India. The event aims to provide an exceptional opportunity to the participants and delegates to have an awareness regarding this issue from other eminent thinkers in this area. Hence the program would be a platform for the participants to have a distinct approach with respect to the rural areas as well the economic inequalities that subsists in India.

Some of the students of the Nirma University visited a village in Maharashtra as part of research and analysis and came to know that farmer suicides are increasing in the state and there is an urgent need to impart knowledge on such an issue. The institute hence decided to conduct such a seminar due to the reason that there are increasing number of farmer suicides in the Vidharbha region and such incidents are getting less importance due to lack of academic knowledge especially among the students regarding such an issue. Therefore, it was felt that organizing a colloquium would assist to spread the reason for farmer suicides in our country and the government would take immediate steps to tackle the issue.

The eminent speakers will be dealing with the topics like Agrarian crisis from different viewpoints of the judiciary, society and also the efforts taken by the media to tackle the problem. In addition to the event, the organizers have planned for a street play related with farmer suicides in India. There will also be a documentary screening along with this. The registration fee for each participant will be Rs 250 which includes educational kit, CD, lunch and certificates. The interested participants have to register before the day of the program for participation.
