RGNUL, Centre for Advanced Studies in Criminal Law Organizes Surana and Surana International Essay Writing Competition – Last date of Submission 29th April, 2016

The Centre for Advanced Studies in Criminal Law had decided to conduct Surana and Surana International Essay Writing Competition at Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law in association with Surana and Surana International Attorneys, Chennai. The students pursuing BA LLB, LLM, PhD, M Phil or any other degree or post graduate degree in any recognized university in the world is eligible to participate in the competition. Where a student from RGNUL qualifies to be in the first three position, he will not be awarded the first three prizes, else will be felicitated for his performance with special prize. The main theme of the essay is ‘Crime of Aggression and International Criminal Justice’. The following are the sub themes for the essay:

  • Universal Jurisdiction and Crime of Aggression’
  • Endig Impunity for Crime of Aggression
  • Crime of Aggression and Humanitarian Interventions
  • Crime of Aggression and Role of UN Security Council
  • Mechanisms for Prosecution for Aggression

The language of the essay must be in English. Co-authorship is permitted to a maximum of two. The registration form for each author shall be send separately. The essays should not be copied and published anywhere. The participants have to send registration form along with the essay. The registration form should be signed by the Head of the Institution under his seal. The registration form can be downloaded from the official website of RGNUL. If the HOD is absent, a senior faculty can sign the form or the participants have to send the scanned copy of the identity card. The papers shall consist of the abstract, essay and bibliography. The abstract shall not exceed 200 words including the title and keywords. The essay shall not exceed 2000 words excluding the abstract and footnote. The essays have to be send to casclrgnulessay@gmail.com with the essay (with the subject-Essay Competition-Name of the author), registration form, cover page with name of the author, nationality, address, name of the institution with address, contact number and Email ID.

The Surana and Surana offers Rs 25000 for the first prize, Rs 15000 for second prize and Rs 10000 for thrid prize. The name of the winners will be published in the website of RGNUL. The date of award distribution will be announced later. All the participants will get certificate of participation. The selected essays will be published in a book with ISBN number. The selected papers will also be published in the website. Consolation prizes will also be given to some participants except the first three prize winners.
