The Punjab Municipal Corporation Law (Extension to Chandigarh) Act, 1994

The Punjab Municipal Corporation Law (Extension to Chandigarh) Act has been incorporated on 24th May, 1994. This Act has been established for the extension of the State of Punjab Municipal Corporation Act, 1976 to the Union Territory of Chandigarh. It means the Punjab Municipal Corporation extended with the Union Territory of Chandigarh.

As far as the repeal provision is concern, the Punjab Act III of 1911 that in so far applied to the Union Territory of Chandigarh shall stand repealed. The functions of the Punjab Act III before this Act shall not been affected. Any rights, privileges, obligations and liability and such other rights and liabilities shall stand repealed. The Ordinance 7 of 1994 stud repeal. The Punjab Municipal Corporation Law (Extension to Chandigarh) Ordinance, 1994 stand repealed. If any action done even though that provision has been repealed then such act may be considered as if it is mentioned in this Act.

In case of any legal proceedings or investigations, etc, shall be continued as if the issue has not been solved. In case of any action of appointment or delegation, etc through notifications, instructions or directions, etc by bye-laws framed or by certificate obtained, and other approvals, they shall be continued in force unless it remains inconsistent to this Act.

The Central Government has the power designate any person by notification as a special Officer to look after and control the Municipal Corporation of Chandigarh.

This Act has been amended later in the year 2000 as The Punjab Municipal Corporation Law (Extension of Chandigarh) Amendment Act 2000 and later in 2004 a Bill was passed in pursuance to the Amendment of this Act.
