Department of Legal Studies, University of Madras – One Day National Seminar on Marriage: Changing Trends on March 19, 2016

The Department of Legal Studies, University of Madras is organizing One Day National Seminar on Marriage: Changing Trends to be held at the Department of Legal Studies in Chepauk, Chennai. The seminar is organized on this topic realizing the changing trends in the institution of marriage and family. The main object of the seminar would be to discuss the new advancements and challenges faced in the area of marriage at present. The seminar will rely on the changing dimensions of marriage in India. Though there are many laws governing marriages and family relations in India, the contemporary society is experiencing tremendous changes in these institutions. Keeping this situation in mind the Department of Legal Studies have decided to conduct seminar on the topic Marriages: Changing Trends. The sub themes of the seminar include:

  • Changing Trends in Marriage and Family Ties
  • Marriages in 21st Century and Law
  • Divorce
  • Domestic Violence, Live in Relationships
  • Marriages- Inter Caste and Inter Religious Marriages
  • Honour Killing
  • Presumption of Marriage- Evidence Act/ Other Legislation and Property Related Issues
  • Termination of Pregnancy, Prenatal Techniques and Surrogacy
  • Breakdown of Family and Plight of Children

These themes are illustrative in nature and the presenters may include other relevant topics coming under the main theme. The institute calls for paper from Academicians, Lawyers, Research Scholars and Students to be presented on the day of the seminar. The papers submitted shall be original work and should not be a published one. The papers will be send to the editorial committee and the selected papers will be published in a journal with ISBN number. The full papers submitted on or before the last date will be published. The abstract shall not exceed 300 words inclusive of the details of the participant like email ID, contact number, and address for correspondence. The soft copy of the abstract and full paper shall be send to nationalseminar.dls16@gmail.com. The participants have to confirm their participation on or before 19th February, 2016 by sending the filled in registration form. The acceptance of abstract will be intimated to the participants by 26th March, 2016. There will not be any registration fee. The full paper should be submitted on or before 4th March, 2016. The participants have to make arrangements for their travel and accommodation. But the department will take care of local hospitality.
