New Plea seeking levelling of the Charges of Contempt against JNUSU President Kanhaiya and others: SC to hear on next week

New Delhi: JNU row has turned to the different dimension, as the JNUSU (Jawaharlal Nehru Students’ Union President- Kanhaiya Kumar and other six are newly alleged to have circulated the pamphlets where the hanging of the Parliament attack convict- Afzal Guru was called ‘Judicial Killing’.

The matter was considered to be the contempt of court, and the honourable Supreme Court of India has agreed to hear the plea, as considered on yesterday, i.e. on Friday, 19th February. Such, plea is seeking to level such contempt charges against the said JNUSU President- Kanhaiya Kumar and also against the others including the Student Activist- Umar Khalid, Former Delhi University Professor SAR Geelani, Member of the Democratic Student Federation- Lenin Kumar, Research Scholar- Anirban Bhattacharya, JNUSU Vice- President- Shehla Rashid Shora and a Member of the Press Club of India- Ali Javed.

It is notable that the said plea for charging the JNUSU President and others, has brought out when the accused- JNUSU President is already facing charges of Sedition and when he has already been arrested and kept in the Custody for such charges.

It can also be seen in the Plea concerned that even when the High Court and also the Apex Court had confirmed the death sentence of the Parliament Attack convict- Afzal Guru, the said JNUSU President and others have distributed the pamphlets, in which they remarked the death of said Afzal Guru was a Judicial Killing. Thus, the plea is seeking their charge for criminal contempt of court.

Moreover, an advocate of the SC- Vineet Dhanda who also a petition in the plea, sought said that the Apex Court’s judges have been projected in the pamphlets as ‘Killers’, even though there was a ‘free and fair trial’  of the said Parliament Attack Convict. Moreover, he also sought to mention that the said JNUSU President- Kanhaiya and others have crossed every limit of the fundamental right to freedom of speech and expression. As such, the bench of the honourable Apex Court headed by Chief Justice of India- CJI- T. S. Thakur have admitted this petition, and also listed the plea for hearing next week in this month.
