RGNUL organises First National Animal Law Moot Court Competition, 2016 on 26th – 28th August, 2016 – Last date of registration 10th July, 2016

Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law, Punjab, announced its 1st National Animal Law Moot Court Competition 2016 organised by Centre for Advanced Studies in International Humanitarian Law (CASH) in collaboration with International Council for Jurists ICJ and The Jurists. Also Sponsored By Humane Society International, HSI.

The moot being first of its kind in India, is focused on animal rights vis-à-vis constitutional law. The idea has been taken form the judgment given by the Hon’ble Apex Court on 7th May 2014, when the constitutional status for the rights of animals like citizens was recognized. The apex court banned the use and abuse of bulls and bullocks in Jallikattu, bullock-cart racing and all in other sports and entertainment based events or festivities. In recent times, court rooms and learned judges across the country have been required to re-look at criminal law from a fresh perspective that is, animal cruelty, animal abuse, illegal trade, animal welfare and so on. The objective behind the moot is to create a greater understanding of animal law among the upcoming law student’s in India and to structure a platform to address the issue specifically.

Prizes worth 70,000/- shall be given to the winners. The competition is from 26th August 2016- 28th August 2016.
