Salman Khan on today has been sentenced to 5 years of prison after he was convicted in Mumbai court when he had killed a man and injured few people in his white Toyota Land Cruiser, in 2002 after a drunken night in a hit and run case. After Pradeep Gharat, Public Prosecutor argued against Salman Khan, Salman who was in white shirt and blue jeans, listened to the order being passed by the court with eye full of tears.
Salman was under trail for 5 cases, 4 being in poaching of black bucks while he was shooting in Jodhpur for a movie and one is this killing and injuring people in Mumbai in a hit and run case. Shrikant Shivade who is Salman’s defence lawyer had put up Alistair Pereira’s case before the court stating that the number of death in this case was more compared to Salman’s case but the experts did not accept the opinion and said it would be a weak defence to be given and that it will not help in this case. Sushila, Salman’s mother has fallen sick after hearing the news in her apartment. There was a huge commotion in the court hall and so crowd was being controlled and only people who were required in the court were permitted inside the court hall. Judge told that the 49 year old actor was driving the car when the accident occurred and rejected the defence’s plea that, Ashok Singh who is Salman’s driver, was driving the car at the time of the accident. Judge also stated that Salman was driving the car when he was fully drunk and without a licence. When the court took a break, Arbaaz Khan, Baba Siddiqui and Sohail Khan left the hearing room but they remained silent without commenting on the matter to the media.
The lawyer representing Salman requested the court to sentence for a maximum of 2 years and fine after showing the court the humanitarian works he had done to the society with his organisation called Being Human. The sentence of 5 years in jail will be a prolonged agony on the superstar. But worst case scenario could be that he can be sentenced to 10 years in prison. Because of his imprisonment many projects that he was working on could be at halt some movies were Prem Ratan Dhan Payo, Bajrangi Bhaijaan, and Shuddhi.
Stunned by the sentence Salman sat down and broke into tears. The Actor suddenly appointed senior lawyer Harish Salve to put bail plea before the Bombay High Court. At around 4.50 p.m the High Court of Bombay granted interim bail to the actor for two days, however the bail period also arrive at an end on day after tomorrow.
