Net Neutrality Issue: Panel Report on the issue will be soon made public, says Telecom Minister

Within few days, on the issue of Net Neutrality the panel report will be made public by publishing same on the website, as per Mr. Ravi Shankar Prasad, the Telecom Minister, Government of India.

Earlier, there was set up a Telecom Department Panel for looking into the issue of Net neutrality, which has now submitted its report to Mr. Ravi Shankar Prasad, who has confirmed the said submission and also made it clear that the said report will be put on the concerned web site within few days time, where one can go into and access the same.

Mr. R. S. Prasad also told to the media that the copy of said report, he has asked the Secretary to send the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India- TRAI for their having look into it.

The issue is relating to the concept of Net neutrality which meant to provide equal treatment for all internet traffic and the prevention of bias treatment or priority which if will be given to any person or entity or company on the basis of payment, etc. then result in discriminatory.

From the very early period of revolution with the respect of concept of Net Neutrality, in India, there was appointed a 6- Member’s Committee in the month of January, 2015 by the Telecom Department, Govt of India and on the issue of the concept of Net Neutrality, the TRAI on late last month had released a draft consultation papers on the website for inviting comments and voting from the public (stake- holders) and industries on the need of having regulations for Net Neutrality, over- the-  top- (OTT) players like Skype, Whatsapp, Viber, etc. and for Security concerns.

In the absence of regulation of Net Neutrality, One’s Internet Service Provider- ISP might favour the certain different websites over the others for which he might have to pay in excess. As the internet has entered into routine of life of huge population everywhere, the persons can be found using net for accessing websites, playing online music, using social sites, watching videos, etc. For all such concerns the internet assess protection has become the need of society as such many of the Internet activists and experts have flagged telecom giant like Bharti Airtel’s “Airtel Zero” platform to be in violation of the principal of concept of ‘Net Neutrality’.
