The Kakatiya University, constituted in 1976 is the famous University in Telengana. The basic aim of the University was to go with the ambitions of the people of Telengana for higher studies. The initiation of the University was a momentous occasion which opened new period in the area of higher education. The Post Graduate course which was offered in Osmania University was upgraded and renamed as Kakatiya University. In 2002 the University was accredited by NAAC with B grade but later in 2008, it was reaccredited giving A grade. The University consists of 24 departments in four colleges. It has nearly 11 constituent colleges along with 471 affiliated colleges. Presently, the University conducts courses in Law, Education, Engineering, Science, Computer Science, Pharmacy, Business Management and Commerce. The University had established a Scholl of Distance Education and Continuing Education which conducts many courses through distance education. Research opportunities are also provided to the students which are funded by different organizations.
The University gives importance in providing advanced facilities to the students. The University consists of coaching centre for UGC NET for backward class students, Student Welfare Centers, Indoor Games Complex, Placement Cell, and Centre for English Language Training etc. The Law Department was established in 1980 in the University College Campus. At present the Head of the Department is Dr. Ranga Rao. The department consists of most advanced infrastructure like Advanced Public Address System, Computer lab, Over Head Projector and many more. The department offers LLB, LLM and Ph D. The main areas of research offered in the Department are Labor Law, Constitutional Law, Environmental Law, Commercial Law, Human Rights and Criminal Law.
The students of the department get the opportunity to participate in sports and other co-curricular activities conducted by the University. With its eminent faculties, the department offers diploma and post graduate diploma courses in law in addition to LLB and LLM. The department also has well known luminaries as its alumni. In addition to class room teaching, the department provided practical legal training to its students. Legal aid camps are often conducted by the department under the assistance of its faculty members and cooperation of the students.
