Jai Prakash University also called as Jai Prakash Vishwavidyala was established on 22 November 1990. It was started with the enactment of Section 3(b) of Bihar State Universities Act, 1976. It has its Head Quarters at Chapra and is affiliated to Bar Council of India, New Delhi. Jai Prakash University has been providing quality education to its student in the backward region of Bihar. This college is trying to bridge the gap between poor and rich families by opening colleges in backward regions of the state.
This university has acquired nearly 242 acres of land in the eastern region of Chapra to improve the University and develop as per the master plant which has been prepared by international town planners. UGC has recognized this under the tenth plan period. State government funds this university and so road and canteen in the premises is maintained under this fund. Prof. Dwijendra Kumar Gupta is the present Vice Chancellor of the university.
This college offers 3 years LL.B course and it follows the semester system that is available to the students in the college and it is a day college. A student or a candidate to be eligible for this college he/she must have passed bachelor degree with 40% marks in aggregate for a 3 year LL.B course. Marks sheet of the last qualifying examination must be attested along with a passport size photo. The students should show the proof of passed exams. The course available here is a full time course and a co-education college. College is located in a very quiet and peaceful place and it has all facilities in the college for the students like, Class rooms, Library, Guest rooms, playground, sports activities, and auditorium. This college has organized many seminars, legal awareness programmes till date and is continuing to do so even in the future.
