The Mahatma Gandhi Law College is a self financing institution constituted in 1991 under the Bhagya Nagar Educational Society. The fundamental aim of the Mahatma Gandhi Law College was to impart quality legal education to the people with correct standpoint. The college is recognized under the Bar Council of India and affiliated to Osmania University. Approval is also granted to the college by the Government of Andhra Pradesh. The college is located in its own campus with many facilities and infrastructure to the students. The college was inaugurated by Sri Sushil Kumar Shinde who was the Governor of State of Andhra Pradesh at that time.
Mahatma Gandhi Law College has been given 8th rank among the various law schools in India as per the survey conducted by ORG MARG in 2004. The college offers LLB (3 year) course and LLB (5 year) course along with Post Graduate course in Law or LLM in regular mode as well as distance mode. The students of this college often secure first position in University exams and others get top first class. The college consists of well qualified faculties who train the students for participating in moot court competitions. The students and the teachers jointly organize legal aid camps with a view to develop skills of the students and enable them to identify and resolve the legal issues in the community. Legal literacy programmes are also organized for the purpose of providing basic legal education to the poor.
The college organizes seminar and workshops on the recent socio-legal problems in its conference hall. The classrooms are well furnished with all facilities. The library consists of law books, journals, periodicals etc. The students are also encouraged to do legal research and court visit and chamber works are compulsorily done as part of curriculum. The syllabus had been prepared according to the latest standards and the teachers are send for teacher training programmes for giving new techniques and methods of teaching. In addition to academic activities, the students are given the chance to participate in the co-curricular activities organized by the University under the assistance of the teachers.
