The Centre for Intellectual Property Rights, National University of Advanced Legal Studies has decided to conduct the 2nd CIPR National Level Essay Writing Competition with an objective to ceremonially remember the World Intellectual Property Day, 2016. The essay writing competition aims to highlight the major IP issues and the protection granted to the new types of intellectual properties at national and international level. The competition will therefore contain protection granted under copyright for the cultural intellectual properties, protection for cultural expressions and challenges faced at remix culture and creator of amateur.
The students pursuing LLB and LLM from a recognized university shall participate in the competition. The papers should be submitted as soft copy to cipr@nuals.ac.in. The essays shall not exceed 3000 words excluding the footnotes and should be in English. A participant shall submit only one essay. If a person submits more than one paper, such papers shall be subject to disqualification. All the essays shall be submitted along with an abstract of not more than 300 words. The organizers permit co-authorship but subject to a maximum of two. The submission shall also be accompanied with a cover page consisting of name, name of the college or institution, address, Email ID, contact number and class of participant.
If there is a co-author, then the details of the other author should also be included. The essays should not be published anywhere or under consideration for publication. The name or other marks should not be added in the essay. The declaration form should also be send along with the essay. The authors shall follow Harvard Bluebook system of citation 19th edition. All the submissions shall be made in .doc/.docx/.odt formats in Times New Roman, Font Size 12, 1.5 Line spacing, Footnote size 10. The last date for submitting the soft copy of the essay shall be 26th April, 2016. The organizers have also announced prizes worth Rs 10,000 for first prize, Rs 5000 for the second prize and Rs 3000 for third prize. The topics of the competition will cover:
- Copyright as a means of protection of cultural intellectual assets in the digital age
- Popular media and cultural expressions: Boundaries of protection afforded by IPR
- Remix Culture and Amateur Creators: Copyright Challenges
- Preserving traditional knowledge and folklore in a digital world with the application of IPR
